First batch 4th – 6th May, 2018
Second batch 7th – 9th May, 2018

Khenpo Sonam Phuntsho is a venerable senior monk who received his Khenpo degree from Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche in 2013. Khenpo studied classical Buddhist philosophy at the prestigious Dzongsar Institute for 9 years and has also completed a traditional 3-year meditation retreat.

We are honoured to have Khenpo Sonam at Vana on a Retreat Residency from May 1st – May 14th.

Venerable Sonam Phuntsho is an excellent teacher, fluent in English and has a deep understanding of the substance, content and depth of the Buddha’s teachings. He has the most gentle, precise and eloquent style.

His sessions will be relevant and applicable to Vanavasis from all backgrounds, faiths and walks of life. They will be beginner to intermediate in their content and style without any dilution in their authenticity.

During his residency in Vana, he would conduct meditation study and practice sessions in two successive batches. The first from 4th to 6th of May and the second from 7th to 9th of May.

  • Each batch would have a daily session of maximum 120 minutes, including teachings and practice
  • Khenpo Sonam intends to use Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche’s book ‘What Makes You Not A Buddhist’ as a source of discussion and conversation, as well as the teachings given by Khyentse Rinpoche at Vana last year
  • Khenpo wishes us to focus on ‘sitting’ rather than becoming ambitious meditators
  • Sessions will be open to all Vanavasis on retreat. We suggest attending all sessions within a batch as they are progressive for maximum benefit and out of respect for the Teacher
  • Your treatments can be scheduled around the sessions
